JAMBOREE UPDATE - 30 July 2005
|
|
|
The weather has cooled off significantly and the
boys have taken great advantage of it. From merit
badges to activity centers to visiting the military's
Action Alley, the boys have enjoyed the activities available
to them all week long. They've also taken a HUGE
advantage of meeting other boys and collecting patches
from their area of the country.

JAMBOREE UPDATE - 28 July 2005
|
|
|
As many of you may have read on the news, there has
been a lot of not so favorable reports coming through
the media regarding the Jamboree. I would like
to offer you mine and the other leaders personal assurances
that the boys are doing fine and well and having the
time of their lives. While the temperature has
been very hot here over the course of the last 3 days,
today we received a reprieve with temperatures 15 to
20 degrees cooler. Also, to ease your minds, the
tragic loss of life that occurred at the beginning of
the Jamboree was in subcamp 7. Our contingent
resides in subcamp 9 and were not near the location
at all when the accident happened.
In order to keep everyone up to date much faster
on the events of the overall contingent, we have established
an information hotline that we will be updating via
phone. The message will be updated daily and you
should be able to check it after 5pm on a daily basis.

For our first day out, we haven't lost anyone yet.
Though tired and have seen lots of things, at
least two troops were handed a very nice surprise on
the plane (see pictures for additional details). The
events of the day consisted of riding the DC Metro from
Reagan Airport to CUA, changing trains in the underground
tunnel, dinner in the dorm cafeteria, served by a very
nice staff, and a bus tour of the Mall area with stops
at the Korean War Memorial, Lincoln Monument, and FDR
Memorial.

Day 3 -- Arlington & Washington
Mall

|
|
While it's hot and humid here, the boys did
a GREAT job at the wreath laying at Arlington National
Entry. Some of the boys even made the hike
to the Iwo Jima Memorial
